Livingston
County Tourism to Host Outdoor Writers Association
"Spring Safari"
Writers
will explore the natural beauty of the western Finger Lakes
Geneseo, N.Y.-The
Livingston County Tourism Office has won the bid to host the New
York State Outdoor Writers Association's 2011 "Spring Safari"
May 12-15.
In securing
the bid, Livingston County Tourism created a four-day itinerary
featuring activities such as guided turkey hunting in Letchworth
State Park and fishing on Conesus Lake, a visit to New York's
newest state park, Hemlock/Canadice State Forest, guided birding
tours, hikes and more.
"We're
thrilled to be able to host the Spring Safari in Livingston County
and share all of the natural wonders that exist in our area,"
said Lisa Burns, director of the Livingston County Tourism Office.
"We invite people to explore Livingston County and to 'have
a field day.' We're sure these outdoor writers will do just that,
and will bring their experiences to their own readers who will
then want to visit and explore for themselves, making a positive
economic impact on the area."
The writers will be living in the outdoors on their visit, in
cabins in Letchworth State Park. Known as the "Grand Canyon
of the East," Letchworth will also be the location for a
welcome reception, special clam bake and barbeque, hikes and a
stone tool technology exhibit and demonstration.
"We felt
it was important to provide the members of the NYSOWA with an
authentic experience during their time in Livingston County,"
Burns said. "They will meet with naturalists and experts
while they're in the environment. Our goal is to provide them
with a deeper understanding of what we have to offer."
