Livingston County Jingle Contest Encourages Creative Types to "Have a Field Day"
GENESEO, NY-Livingston County Tourism has announced a jingle contest based on their "Have A Field Day" theme and they are looking for individuals or groups to compose a 30-second jingle for the tourism office to incorporate in their marketing and advertising campaigns.
The contest is being conducted in conjunction with Theatre 101, the new theater located at 101 Main Street in Mount Morris, and will be held once a month at their 'open mic' nights the first Thursday of every month. The first round was held on July 7. "There were seven jingle entries and more than 40 people in attendance," said Lisa Burns, director of Livingston County Tourism, who developed the jingle contest idea along with Rick and Cathie Barry of Theatre 101. "The contest definitely brought more people in to the space. Performers are encouraged to perform three songs or poems of their choice and can also add a jingle entry."
A panel of four local judges split the first $100 monthly prize between two people, Len Squires of Avon, and Beth Ely Sleboda of Livonia.
There are two more chances to participate, August 4 and September 1, with the finale scheduled for October 6. Monthly winners receive $100, with the finalist receiving $250 and the possibility of commercial use of the jingle.
Criteria for jingle are that it must be lively and catchy; use the phrase "Have A Field Day," a registered trademark for Livingston County Tourism, at least twice; mention one or more area attractions, such as Letchworth State Park or attractive downtowns; have a strong call to action to visit Livingston County; and contain no political or religious references.
Participation in the contest and attendance at the open mic is free, with donations accepted for ongoing theatre activities. Performers begin singing in at 7 p.m. with performances beginning at 7:30 p.m. For more information, call Theatre 101 658-4678 and leave a message or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or contact the Livingston County Tourism office at 243-2222.
