Hemlock
Lake
Located
in southeast Livingston County, Hemlock Lake is one of New
York States famous finger lakes, a group of eleven
elongated glacial lakes in west-central New York.

The
shoreline remains undeveloped with numerous places to get
out and hike along the shore. On the East and West the lake
is bordered by low hills running its length. At the southern
end of the lake is a wet land to explore.
Elevation:
905 feet
Area: 1,800 acres
Length: 7 miles
Maximum width: 0.5 miles
Maximum depth: 91 feet
From
Rochester take Route 15A south passing through the village
of Hemlock. Turn right on Rix Hill Road approximately one
mile south of intersection of Route 15A with Route 20A.
Immediately turn left off of Rix Hill Road onto East Lake
Road. Approximately 1.1 miles from turn off onto East Lake
Road is the boat launch.

Recreational
use of Hemlock Lake is regulated by the City of Rochester
Water Department. Fishing and boating are allowed by permit
only. Boats may not exceed 16 feet in length and motors
may not exceed 10 h.p. Check your watershed visitor permit
for details. Annual permits can be obtained free of charge
from a self-service booth at the north end of the Lake.
Public
boat access is available only at the northeast corner of
the lake, off Rix Road, and at the southeast corner off
Route 15A. Access is by permit only. Both unimproved access
points have gravel ramps.
Fishing
Hemlock Lake offers a unique experience in western New York
where most lakeshores are heavily developed.
Anglers can expect to catch Lake Trout, Landlocked Atlantic
Salmon, Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, Large- and Small-Mouth
Bass.
The
beautifully wooded shorelines and hillsides of Hemlock provide
an atmosphere experienced only in relatively remote areas
like the Adirondacks and Canadian provinces. The boat size/horsepower
limitation contributes importantly to the "unspoiled"
atmosphere.
The
north end of Hemlock Lake offers a park like setting with
a large covered pavilion and tables. The pavilion use is
"First Come, First Serve."
Rest
rooms are open generally from spring until first frost.
Park
area is open from 7am to 10pm.
Park is "Carry In - Carry Out."
Stop
a the kiosk to obtain a guidelines permit or visit the City
of Rochester website to view and download a copy of the
free, guidelines permit. www.ci.rochester.ny.us
